Outline:

This one day course is designed for those who would like to increase their personal influencing skills, manage interpersonal interactions more skilfully, defuse conflict and present an overall more positive and decisive image. Also this will achieve improved relations in both work related and personal life situations.

Who should attend?

Anyone who feels they need to be more personally effective in one to one or group situations, making requests, expressing personal opinions or coping with criticism effectively.

Course Content:

  • What is assertiveness?
  • Assertive attitudes to self and others.
  • When to use assertive techniques.
  • Feeling positive.
  • Assertiveness practice sessions.
  • Personal action plans.

Delegates will learn to:

  • Understand the difference between aggressive, passive and assertive behaviours.
  • Understand assertive language in verbal and non-verbal forms.
  • Identify a current situation and practice three types of behaviours.
  • Define different assertive stances.
  • Follow simple techniques for feeling positive.
  • Complete an assertive preparation checklist.
  • Apply the checklist to a current situation and apply the techniques.
  • Say "no"
  • Influence decisions.
